Mt Trio Caravan Park– Stirling Range

September Long Weekend

Climb every mountain ....The Mt Trio Bush Camping and Caravan Park is a well-equipped bush camp, with hot showers, flushing toilets, gas BBQ's, fridge, microwave, table tennis table, bushwalks, etc.  You can get there on a sealed road from Perth.  There is a large covered shelter that comes in handy if it is raining.  A variety of day and half-day walks can be done into the nearby Stirling Ranges.  There are generally well marked trails which offer a series a grades for the inexperienced and experienced walker.  Be prepared for inclement weather!  For the older children and their (very) active parents there is a possibility of doing the famous and strenuous Stirling Ridge Walk with spectacular views of the ridge; camp in a cave high up on the ridge overlooking the wheatfields.  For the less energetic, there are pleasant nature walks along the river and the slopes surrounding the caravan park which are usually in full flower at this time of year.

The Porongurup Range is not far away and offers more walks in a different environment of granites and karri.  Wineries, coffee shops and other touristy offerings are found in the area.  Albany is not that far away.  Sometimes the local gliding club offers joy rides from a nearby paddock. One year we arranged for a local Aboriginal group to show us some bush skills and share their native culture.
